Cattail as a building material that is not entirely new, but the processing, as it comes from the home of Werner Theuerkorn is different and yes, even new.
He cuts up to three meter long cattail leaves and splits them with a circular knife and presses them with magnesite. The result is a high quality insulating panel with excellent insulation values. Typha could be grown on former wetland sites. The reclaimed land would become waterlogged again.
This could thus represent a CO2 sink and provide flood retention areas in the right place.
We have already had the material by Werner Theuerkorn in hand and are thrilled.
